TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Burnout is making everyday life harder for most Ontarians, but few know where to turn for help, according to a survey answered among members of the Angus Reid Forum conducted on behalf of the Ontario Society of Occupational Therapy (OSOT), the provincial professional association of occupational therapists and occupational therapist assistants. Coinciding with Occupational Therapy Month, the survey found that seven in ten Ontarians (71%) say burnout made it hard to keep up with household tasks in the past year, yet only four in ten (40%) can identify what an occupational therapist does.

Occupational therapists help people of all ages function in their everyday lives when physical or mental health challenges get in the way, from getting dressed and cooking a meal to living safely at home. The survey suggested many Ontarians who could benefit from that support are making sacrifices instead: 1 in 5 Ontarians (22%) skipped meals because they couldn’t shop or cook. As a result, many may be missing out on support that could help them live independently.
